H1S equips Miami partners for veteran cancer-screening outreach

H1S helped Miami VA bring multi-cancer early detection research into community outreach in 2025. The purpose was to encourage veterans to complete wellness activities that support their health. By providing check-ins, training, and outreach equipment, H1S helped partners give veterans a clearer path to eligibility information and the study team.

H1S trained staff to manage check-in forms and responses, and provided outreach materials with QR codes and tap-to-check-in options. Partners could also offer the check-in on a computer or tablet for veterans without a phone.

H1S connected Miami VA staff with local veteran-service organizations. A July meeting with United Way of Broward County’s Mission United team focused on bringing screening outreach to veterans at risk of homelessness.

What the study found

The initial 2024 REFLECTION findings detected cancer signals in 37 of 2,854 veterans (1.3%) across seven VA sites, including Miami. Among 28 participants with positive results who completed six months of follow-up, 12 had confirmed cancer diagnoses. For those veterans, clinical follow-up provided answers that could guide their care.
